Lesson Name: Course Introduction

JST 04103: Journalism Ethics and Practice is First Semester subject in Basic Technician Certificate (NTA Level 4 ) with SIX (6) credits course. This course aimed to; 1. Enable journalists to develop tools of analysis that would help in making sound judgments and rational decisions in facing ethical problems or dilemmas. 2. Enable journalists reacquaint with the necessary knowledge of journalism ethics. “The goal of ethics is not to make ethical judgments with which everyone agrees but to increase our ability to defend our critical judgments on some rational basis.” DAY

This course cover seven (7) Lessons with the following objectives;

1. Promote for the public benefit high ethical standards in journalism, based on principles of truth and accuracy, independence, fairness and impartiality, humanity and accountability by the provision of education and training of journalists.

2. Gain familiarity with contemporary scholarly analysis of media ethics.

3. Application of  journalism  concepts discussed in class and in the readings to ethical issues within media content.

4. Improve students’ ability to become professionally competent in  in journalism field of study.
